By Breaking Belize News Staff: Patrick Faber’s return as standard bearer for the Collet constituency was a move that was made to benefit the United Democratic Party (UDP) as a whole, Party Leader Moses “Shyne” Barrow told Breaking Belize News (BBN) today.
Barrow explained that, as the party gears up for the upcoming municipal elections, presenting a strong, unified front, is the duty of the opposition, which prompted the decision. Barrow noted that his efforts uniting the party can been seen by the “almost unanimous” endorsement of his leadership at the UDP’s national convention.
“The return of Hon. Faber is a part of my sustained efforts to keep the UDP united and put us in the best position to win the Municipal Elections and General Elections,” Barrow said.
Barrow told his fellow party members that former standard bearer Ian Jones, who was endorsed late last year to be Faber’s replacement in Collet, was always ready to resign from the post if it was in the best interest of the party.
Faber’s return was decided on April 21; however, a National Party Council meeting is scheduled for next month, where it will be made official.
