Man pleads guilty to drug possession and assaulting an officer, claims the officer was ‘violating’ him

By Breaking Belize News Staff: Belize City resident Stephen Flowers pleaded guilty to two criminal charges and was fined in the Belize City Magistrate’s Court today.

Flowers was charged for possession of controlled drugs in relation to 23.81 grams of marijuana found on him during a search and assaulting an officer.

He immediately pleaded guilty to the drug possession, but said he could not understand why he was being charged for assault when he pushed the arresting officer away from him because the officer had pushed his hand down the front of Flower’s pants.

The Magistrate explained to Flowers that the act of pushing the officer amounted to an assault, so he changed his not-guilty plea to guilty.

Flowers was fined $300 plus $5.00 cost of court for the possession and $600 plus $5 cost of court for the assault.
