Security Oriented Services promises to pay employees outstanding salaries then announces plans to file for bankruptcy

Posted: Tuesday, April 25, 2023. 12:16 pm CST.

By Breaking Belize News Staff: Security Oriented Services (SOS), the security company being sued by 16 of its former employees over unpaid wages promised to take responsibility for its misdeeds, but the employees still might not get their money.

That’s because today, during the hearing of the civil suit in the Belize City Magistrate’s Court, SOS’s lawyer Orson Elrington informed that the company will be filing for bankruptcy.

Due to the procedure involved, SOS will need to arrange a settlement with the Government of Belize, which it owed, before paying the workers their overdue wages. The Magistrate ordered that the workers be paid by June 30, and instructed them to report it to the court on July 3, if their wages have not been deposited into their accounts.

During the proceedings, SOS owner Paul Garcia’s name was removed from the lawsuit and the company was attached in his place.

The plaintiffs in the suit are Therese Milligan, seeking $1,696.50; Tiffany Pollard seeking $1,245.67; Denfield Charles Robinson seeking $3,433.25; Michael Kent Walter seeking $3,976; Allison Lynton Emmerson Clare seeking $4,226.50; Leonnie Anne Castillo seeking $1,559.76; Keder Neal seeking $2,788.00; Donovan Franzua for $3,230; Denise Desiree Rosa, seeking $4,421.50; Whitfield H. Middleton seeking $$10,775; Trevor Brian Avilez seeking $5,313.75; Eustace Anthony seeking $7,767.74; Pamela Olivera seeking $2,025.00; Courtney Renae Rivers seeking $1,813.08; Goldburn Maskall seeking $2,133.96, and plaintiff #16 seeking $4,882.50.

If SOS does not pay the Court says it will order that the company’s assets be sold off to cover the cost in a process called distress.
