By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: On April 25, 2023, Roberto Rivero, Protected Areas Manager from the Belize Audubon Society (BAS) handed over 6 stoves and 13 propane fuel cylinders to Major Kenrick Martinez, Operations Officer of the Belize Defence Force (BDF).
The Belize Audubon Society noted that the stoves and cylinders are a portion of more donations to be given to the BDF.
“The BDF and the Belize Audubon Society are working together to strengthen patrol presence within the jurisdiction of Cockscomb Basin Wildlife Sanctuary, Stann Creek District,” the BDF noted.
The Cockscomb Basin Wildlife Sanctuary and Victoria Peak Natural Monument are cornerstones of Belize’s National Protected Areas System.
The BDF Airwing will also assist and conduct air reconnaissance of these protected areas and foot-patrols in an effort to prevent illegal logging and other illicit activities.
The BDF extended gratitude to the BAS for the donations.
