Belize Territorial Volunteers invite Belizeans to visit historic border marker

Posted: Wednesday, April 26, 2023. 10:27 am CST.

By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: The Belize Territorial Volunteers (BTV) and Wil Maheia are inviting Belizeans to visit the historic border marker at the Gracias a Dios in the Sarstoon River.

The BTV visits the border marker to commemorate the signing of the 30th April 1859 border treaty.

“We do this to remind Belizeans that the border treaty was signed on 30th April 1859 that established our Belize Border with Guatemala,” Maheia says.

The BTV has engaged in planting a Belizean flag on the Sarstoon Island for over 15 years

The group leaves on Saturday, April 29 at 7 a.m.

Those wishing to join can contact the BTV.
