Honoring a legend, Police Department names basketball tournament after the late William Dawson

By Benjamin Flowers: The Belize Police Department, in continuing to honor the legacy of the former head of the Leadership Intervention Unit, the late William Dawson, has named a basketball tournament after him.

The department announced today that the William Dawson SPRITE-DIGI Youth Basketball Tournament 2023 will be launched on Friday, May 5 at the Lopez Mateo Park, Kings Park, Belize City.

There are a total of 24 teams competing with the first two games being Complex Titans vs Hattieville Underdogs, and Team Police vs Hard Rock Boys.

William Dаwѕоn, who was also the former director of the Wagner’s Youth Facility at the Belize Central Prison, dіеd of kidney disease on Јаnuаrу 25, 2023. His passing was a shock to those that worked with him and those influenced by him, including members of street gangs in Belize, who all paid respect to the positive impact he had on their lives.
