By Rubén Morales Iglesias: The Commanding Officer in Charge at Belize’s westernmost town, Benque Viejo del Carmen, on Thursday met with the Commanding Officer from Melchor de Mencos, Guatemala at the OAS at the Belize-Guatemala border.

“On Thursday, April 26th, 2023, Officer Commanding Benque Police Formation, Jesus Palma, Asp., along with officers attached to the Belize Western Border Station (BWBS) attended a meeting with the Officer Commanding Policia Nacional Civil of Melchor de Mencos Guatemala, PNC , Hugo Barahona and Deputy Commander, Isaiah Hernandez at the OAS conference Room at the BWBS,” the Belize Police Department Public Relations Office said in a statement posted on social media.

“The meeting was to build good working relations and discussed issues of transnational crimes, human trafficking, trafficking of drugs and firearms and persons wanted.”

Assistant Superintendent (ASP) Palma was recently posted to head the Police Department in Benque Viejo del Carmen.

The Belize Police department said both Commanders agreed to work together to keep the border area safe.
