Island Academy win Girls Belize District Primary Schools Basketball Championship

By Rubén Morales Iglesias: Island Academy girls from San Pedro won the Belize District Primary Schools Basketball Championship on Tuesday at the Mexico Center in Belize City.

Island Academy defeated Lucky Strike Government School 7-6 in the final. Lucy Vandy led Islan Academy with four points while Shanda Staine topped Lucky Strike Government School with 6 points.

Lucky Strike beat Queen Square Anglican 10-7 in the semifinal while Island Academy edged Wesley Upper 9-8.

The Belize District Primary Schools Basketball Championship was organized by the National Sports Council.

Island Academy will represent the Belize District along with the boys of St John Vianney in the National Primary School Basketball Championship 2023 to be held in Dangriga at the Russell ‘Chiste’ Garcia Auditorium and the Ecumenical High School Auditorium on Friday, April 28.
