Ministry of Health and Wellness and Ministry of Education discuss strengthening of food handlers certificates for school vendors following drug-laced candy incident

By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: The Ministry of Education, Culture, Science and Technology says that it is working with the Ministry of Health and Wellness to discuss if there are gaps or possibilities to strengthen the process of issuing food handlers certificates for school vendors in an attempt to ensure safe procedures and conditions on food carts.

In addition, the Ministry of Education says that it recognises the importance of educating and reminding children and adults on healthy and safe food choices.

The Ministry also said that it is aware of the need to continue to work of building the National Healthy Start School Feeding Programme in order to provide nutritious meals to students at all levels.

The Ministry also reiterated the importance of School safety plans.

“This incident highlights the critical importance of School Safety Plans, and, together we will work with schools to develop these plans and build their capacity to execute these plans in times of crisis,” the Ministry said.
