Colorado Community Outreach Mission Group makes positive impact on Belizean community

Posted: Friday, April 28, 2023. 3:00 pm CST.

By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: The Colorado Community Outreach Mission Group is making waves in western Belize, with their dedication to giving back to the community. The team has been busy engaging in sports camps, arts and crafts, and community outreach programs in the Twin Towns of San Ignacio and Santa Elena.

From April 24 to 28, the team was focused on providing a soccer camp for boys and girls aged 12 to 15, which offered an opportunity to improve their soccer skills and techniques. Alongside this, students were also able to attend a free basketball camp with professional coaches.

However, the outreach group’s efforts extended beyond sports camps and arts and crafts. They collaborated with various community members, such as the staff of Cahal Pech Village Resort, Saint Ignatius High School, and other volunteers, to distribute grocery hampers to families in need.

The Colorado Community Outreach Mission Group also partnered with the team at Cahal Pech Village Resort to assist a family with much-needed home renovations, including a bathroom addition and cementing their floor. The group also spent time with seniors at Octavia Waight Center, collecting items for them.

In a statement to BBN, the leader of the group, Lana, expressed gratitude for the warm welcome received by Belizeans. “The people here are so loving and helpful. We really just come alongside everyone and work together as a team,” she said. “Our team of 26 came to build relationships and friendships which we work together in doing. We have made many good friends out here and plan to continue our companionship. God is in charge, and we just follow his lead.”

This isn’t the first time the Colorado Community Outreach Mission Group has given back to the community in Belize. In 2020, the group donated $1000 to the Octavia Waight Center. The team’s selflessness and dedication to helping families in need are inspiring, and their contributions are making a positive impact on the Twin Towns of San Ignacio and Santa Elena.
