Guatemalan Police capture wanted fugitive in Izabal after robbery, shootout

By Aaron Humes: Guatemalan media sources report this morning that a man identified as 25-year-old Sergio Pineda is in Police custody in Livingston, Izabal, southern Guatemala.

Pineda fled Belizean authorities following a court appearance in Benque Viejo Town on March 30 along with Piers Castillo who remains at large. He was thought to have crossed the Guatemalan border shortly thereafter.

According to Guatemala’s Noti Reu, Pineda was involved in an armed robbery prior to his capture. He was injured by police during a shootout and transported to the hospital where he remains under police guard. Authorities say they seized two firearms and a motorcycle during the capture.

Pineda faces murder charges related to two separate murders in the Cayo District.
