International News: China’s combat drone near Taiwan as US navy plane transits Taiwan Strait

By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: On Thursday, Taiwan’s Defence Ministry informed that a Chinese combat drone flew near Taiwan just as a U.S. maritime patrol aircraft transited the Taiwan Strait.

Earlier this month, China conducted military drills near Taiwan after President Tsai Ing-wen met U.S. House of Representatives Speaker Kevin McCarthy in Los Angeles.

In addition, Taiwanese officials informed that over the last 24 hours, 19 military aircraft had entered the island’s air defence identification zone.

There continues to be heightened tensions between Taiwan and China since China views Taiwan as its territory and has long vowed to “reunify” the self-governing democratic island.
