By Benjamin Flowers: Police have arrested a San Pedro man in connection with an investigation into the theft of over $30,000 from the Belize Solid Waste Management Authority (BSWMA).
Police say that, earlier today, officers formally arrested and charged Antonio Lorenzo Tepaz, a 26-year-old, Belizean Supervisor of DFC Area, San Pedro Town for the crime of Theft.
Reports are that the Operations Manager of the BSWNA conducted an audit on Wednesday and found that for the San Pedro branch, a total of $43,000 was collected but only $12,665.00 was actually deposited into the account, leaving a missing $30,335.00. Upon discovering that money was missing, he reported the matter to the police.
The money was for tipping fees collected from customers at the San Pedro Transfer Station.
