Belize Weather: Hottest day of the year gives way to late showers and thunderstorms

By Breaking Belize News Staff: Seasonally hot and dry conditions prevail according to the National Meteorological Service, but later some instability and moisture set in.

Skies today will be sunny and hazy, temperatures hot and conditions dry, but tonight skies will be cloudy at times. Isolated thunderstorms will develop over inland and southern areas this afternoon before increasing and spreading to most areas tonight and tomorrow morning.

Temperatures will reach 90 degrees Fahrenheit along the coast, 102 degrees over inland areas and 92 degrees in the hills. Tonight’s low temperatures will be 78 degrees along the coast, 70 degrees inland and 64 degrees in the hills. A heat alert is in effect and residents of inland areas are advised to stay hydrated and avoid outdoor activities as much as possible in the afternoon.

Winds are easterly to southeasterly at five to 15 knots, becoming westerly to northwesterly at 10 to 20 knots. Sea state is choppy to moderate.

Tides will be low at 11:46 this morning and high at 5:34 this evening. The sun sets at 6:12 this evening and rises at 5:27 Sunday morning.

Sunday will be cloudy and cool with a few showers and isolated thunderstorms.
