Forbes: Belize known for best Scuba Diving in the World

Posted: Saturday, April 29, 2023. 10:34 am CST.

By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: Belize boasts the second largest barrier reef in the world and the longest barrier reef system in the Northern Hemisphere.

Renowned business and travel magazine, Forbes listed Belize as the best place to go scuba diving in the world.

That is because of Belize’s 10,000 year old barrier reef with a wide variety of oceanic creatures, from rock-like living coral to endangered sea turtles to over 500 species of fish in every color.

“The 185-mile-long Belize Barrier Reef runs the length of the country and was named a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1996. Over 23 % of the country’s marine waters are protected, and there are 13 protected fish spawning sites in the country. Belize has one of the most successful and long-lasting coral regeneration sites in the world,” Forbes noted.

In addition, Belize is home to the Great Blue Hole and divers from around the world visit, seeing it is an unforgettable experience.

“Belize has some of the best scuba diving in the world. For those planning a trip specifically to go scuba diving, it’s smart to pick two different locations within Belize and spend 3-4 days at each spot. This also makes sense given the diving/flying rule (divers can’t fly for 24 hours after their last dive),” Forbes added.

Visitors can also enjoy pristine beaches and immerse in Belize’s diverse cultures and food.
