International News: Former BBC Ukraine journalist killed on front line in Ukraine

By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: Journalist Oleksandr Bondarenko, a former BBC correspondent of BBC News Ukraine was killed on the front line in Ukraine.

According to the BBC, Bondarenko volunteered for Ukraine’s territorial defence at the start of Russia’s invasion in February 2022.

He worked as a communications expert before becoming a part of the military.

Former BBC colleagues and Ukraine’s media community have joined in paying tribute to a talented journalist who went on to be a successful communications professional.

Former chief of the BBC’s Ukrainian Service, Maciek Bernatt-Reszczynski, said the corporation was extremely lucky to have him on the Kyiv team: “It was always new challenges with this extraordinary man. Including the last, heroic one, to defend his country from aggression.”
