By Rubén Morales Iglesias: The Minister of Rural Transformation and Local Government Oscar Requena handed over heavy equipment valued at $150,000 plus to Benque Viejo del Carmen Mayor Jorge Antonio Rosales.

“The Ministry provided funding to the Benque Viejo Town Council, which contributed to the purchase of a backhoe, trailer, and grader,” the Ministry of Rural Transformation, Community Development, Labour, and Local Government said.

“The equipment, which is worth over $150,000.00, will be used to assist the town with ongoing street development and other municipal projects.”

The Local Government Ministry said Minister Requena was accompanied by Clifford King, Director of Local Government, and Mayor Jorge Rosales was joined by Jorge Espat, Cayo West Area Representative for Cayo West at the handing-over ceremony.

According to the Benque Viejo Town Council, the Ministry of Rural Transformation and Local Government contributed 30% to the Benque Town Council for the purchase of a dump truck, backhoe, trailer, and a grader. Mayor Rosales said the grader will be coming in by the end of May.
