Orange Walk man confessed to stealing $10,000 pearl from fellow fisherman

By Breaking Belize News Staff: An Orange Walk fisherman was fined this week after pleading guilty to a charge of theft.

On Thursday, 28-year-old Ezekiel Canelo confessed that he was frustrated because he has a sick mother which prompted him to steal a pearl valued at $10,000 which was found by another Orange Walk fisherman.

He has also stolen over $7,000 worth of fishing equipment in the same incident.

For his guilty plea, Cantelo was fined $2,500 plus $5 cost of court which he must pay by October 31 or he will spend two years in prison for defaulting.

The theft occurred on April 6.
