By Aaron Humes: According to police, a despairing taxi driver appeared to injure himself by fire in his vehicle on Saturday morning on Pickstock Street.

Police responded to reports of a vehicle on fire in the area just before 10 a.m. and found the vehicle completely burned.

The victim, identified as 31-year-old Davidson Estiverne, a Haitian national, was heard calling someone and discussing his financial situation, before reportedly pouring a substance on his body and then setting it afire.

The fire was extinguished by Fire Service personnel and Estiverne was taken to the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital, where he was admitted in critical condition with burn injuries. Police are investigating.
