By Rubén Morales Iglesias: For the tenth consecutive time, Belizean Kaya Cattouse riding for team LA Sweat 501 won the 44-mile Cedral Cycling Race (Carrera Ciclista Cedral) in Cozumel, Mexico on Sunday, April 30.
“Cedral Classic 2023 in Cozumel, Mexico. Been racing here since 2012. 10 years – 10 wins,” Kaya wrote in a social media post after the Mexico race.
Gabrielle Gabourel, riding for LA Sweat as well, finished in seventh place. Last year she placed fourth.
Mexicans from Yucatán, Lisbeth Rodriguez and Wendy Maldonado were second and third respectively. Cancun’s Paula Alvarez was fourth and Cozumel’s Nicte Ha Alcocer was fifth.
Kaya is so popular in Cozumel that, as we do here in Belize, the media call her by her first name.
