House fire on Antelope Street Extension reportedly kills mother and young children

By Aaron Humes: Information is still being gathered by authorities, but it appears tragedy struck a family in Belize City early this morning.

Around seven a.m. a fire broke out at a residence on Antelope Street Extension. Preliminary information is that a mother and her two children, neither older than three years of age, died in the flames.

Area Representative for Collet Patrick Faber has written on social media of his heartbreak in confirming the fire and extended “my deepest sympathies” to the relatives of the deceased during this difficult time.

He added, “The loss of three of our own is a painful reminder of the fragility of life. My office and I will work closely with local authorities to ensure that [the affected] family receives the support they need. This is the second major fire in the last two days in this area of [the] constituency. I urge everyone to take fire safety seriously and be vigilant in preventing such tragedies from occurring. Let us come together as a community to support each other during this time of grief.
