Caribbean Agricultural Research and Development Institute participate in Agric 2023

By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: Over the weekend, the Caribbean Agricultural Research and Development Institute (CARDI) participated in the National Agriculture and Trade Show in Belmopan.

The CARDI team highlighted the scope of the Institute’s work in Belize and showed how it is benefitting the local and regional farming communities.

CARDI noted that the focus was on the seed/grain production programme, identification of drought tolerant varieties, the coconut and hot pepper industries and roots and tuber development.

Several locally produced value-added products were displayed including a pepper mash produced by the Institute and University of Belize.

CARDI shared that farmers and visitors were able to view a plastic mulcher, adapted for use under local conditions and a coconut climber developed by a local farmer.

“We enjoyed your interaction and enthusiasm. We look forward to broadening our partnerships to further develop agriculture,” a statement from CARDI said.
