International News: Mexican authorities bust “Fake” Coca-Cola operation

Posted: Thursday, May 4, 2023. 4:13 pm CST.

By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: On Wednesday, authorities in Mexico raided a property and found thousands of bottles with the Coca Cola brand.

According to the Associated Press, most of the bottles were empty but some had “supposed” cola.

Authorities also found hoses, pumps, bottle washing facilities and new bottle caps, suggesting that criminals were making their own Coke.

At the property, police found stolen delivery trucks that the suspects could have been using for distributing the drinks.

“Information came to light that this property was possibly being used to manufacture soft drinks with similar characteristics to a well known cola brand,” prosecution spokesperson Ulises Lara stated.

For years, Mexico has had issues with counterfeiters falsifying everything from name-brand blue jeans and sneakers, to prescription medications.
