Police officer and brother ambushed and chopped following Agriculture Show altercation

Posted: Thursday, May 4, 2023. 1:31 pm CST.

By Aaron Humes: The National Agriculture and Trade Show is no stranger to violent incidents and after police moved to quell one over the weekend, the bad blood spilt to Unitedville, Cayo District on Sunday, where a police officer and his brother were targeted.

Constable Jody Ingram was walking on a street in Unitedville when multiple assailants ambushed him. He was hit in the head with a bat and then chopped with a machete. His brother, Jerrington Ingram, tried to help him but received injuries as well.

Assistant Commissioner of Police Hilberto Romero linked the attack to an altercation earlier in the day at the Showgrounds: “They had a misunderstanding and the Police intervened and persons were spoken to, and thereafter this attack happened in Unitedville.” He added that the suspects had been drinking on the day of the incident.

The brothers were treated and have since been released and charges will be brought against their attackers.
