Belizeans can watch tonight’s penumbral lunar eclipse via live stream

Posted: Friday, May 5, 2023. 11:14 am CST.

By Benjamin Flowers: Tonight sky watchers in the Eastern Hemisphere will be able to see the penumbral eclipse also known as the “flower moon,” but Belizeans will still be able to view the eclipse via live stream.

The eclipse will be visible to most of Africa, Europe, Asia, and Australia, but Space.com will be live streaming the eclipse for free at this link, to ensure that those in the Western Hemisphere do not miss out on the occasion.

A penumbral eclipse occurs when the Sun, Earth, and the Moon are imperfectly aligned. During this alignment, the Earth blocks some of the Sun’s light from directly reaching the Moon’s surface, covering all or part of the Moon with the outer part of its shadow.

The next penumbral eclipse is estimated to occur in 2042. Meanwhile, the next eclipse visible from Belize will be the Annular Solar Eclipse, which is set to occur on October 14.
