Hurricanes beat Griga Dream Ballers 76-65 in Belize Elite Basketball League on Friday

By Rubén Morales Iglesias: The Belize Elite Basketball League (BEBL) leaders, the Benny’s Belize Hurricanes, got past the Griga Dream Ballers 76-65 at the Belize City Civic Center on Friday night.

The Hurricanes established their game in the second half and got away with a 76 to 65 win.

Glency ‘Coope’ Lopez led the Hurricanes with 20 points, 5 rebounds, 2 assists and a block. Both Kirk Smith Jr and Kris Fraser came up with 11 points and 11 rebound9s. Apart from that, Frazier added an assist and a steal. Smith came up with a steal and a block.

Victor Evans also scored 11 points and snatched 7 rebounds while making two assists for the Hurricanes.

The Dream Ballers were led by Dominic Woodson who scored 16 points, grabbed 11 rebounds, and made two assists. Delvon Henderson scored 15 points, pulled six rebounds, and made two assists, three steals, and two blocks. Daniel Conorquie scored 14 points and made four rebounds, one assist, and three steals.

The Dream Ballers led by 8 at the half, 41 to 33, but by the end of the third they were tied at 56 apiece. The Dream Ballers relinquished the lead in the fourth quarter scoring 11 points less than the Hurricanes, (20-9) to fall 76-65.

At the same time, the Belize City Defenders managed a 10-point win, 87-77, over the Orange Walk Running Rebels at the Orange Walk Multi-Purpose Complex on Friday night at 9:00pm.

On Saturday, the Belmopan Red Taigaz will take on the Punta Gorda Panthers at the UB Gymnasium in Belmopan at 9:00 pm while the San Pedro Tiger Sharks will host the Cayo Western Ballaz at the Angel Nuñez Auditorium at the same time.
