By Breaking Belize News Staff: Commissioner of Police Chester Williams has confirmed that the recent shooting incident near the Copperbank Ferry in Corozal Town is believed to be drug-related. Benigno Larios, the primary suspect, has been targeted in the past and is no stranger to law enforcement.
Following reports of the shooting, police discovered multiple expended shells and rounds of ammunition at the scene. A search of the nearby Progresso Village revealed an overturned vehicle with two injured individuals inside. A high-powered rifle and a pellet gun were also found near the vehicle.
The injured individuals were taken into custody and transported to the Corozal Polyclinic, then the Northern Regional Hospital, and finally, one was transferred to KHMH. Later, police learned that two individuals, Benigno Larios and Sergio Hall, arrived at the Northern Medical Plaza with gunshot injuries. They are still admitted to the hospital.
At this time, police believe the individuals in the overturned vehicle were involved in the shooting with Larios and Hall. The police continue to gather information and hope to learn more as soon as the injured parties are able to speak with them.
Commissioner Williams confirmed the shooting’s drug-related nature due to Larios’ involvement. Larios had previously been targeted in Belize City, where he was shot multiple times and drove himself to the hospital.
