Belize observes Nurses Week 2023 from May 6 to May 12

By Rubén Morales Iglesias: International Nurses Week 2023 started on Saturday, May 6, and closes on May 12, Florence Nightingale’s birthday. Nightingale was the founder of modern nursing.

“Our Nurses, Our Future. We take this opportunity to honor our Nurses and extend our sincere appreciation for their hard work and dedication, specifically those who are a part of our family here at Belize Medical Associates,” said the Belize Medical Associates (BMA), in a social media post on Saturday at the beginning of Nurses Week.

“In honor of 𝐍𝐮𝐫𝐬𝐞𝐬 𝐖𝐞𝐞𝐤 (May 6th to May 12th , 2023) we are offering ALL Nurses a 10% DISCOUNT in our #Pharmacy, #Laboratory and #Imaging departments at BMA.”

“Happy Nurse’s Week to the Nursing Staff of the KHMHA. Nurse’s Week is celebrated to honor and recognize the hard work and dedication of nurses in providing quality healthcare to patients,” the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital (KHMH) posted on Sunday morning.

This week Breaking Belize News joins the KHMH and Belize Medical Associates in saluting our nurses for their hard work and dedication which they do daily. The reality is that nurses are the backbone of the health care industry.

They are the ones in the frontlines taking care of the sick day in and day out. Many times, we take their service for granted not realizing all that they have to do to help us take care of our health. We don’t see their hard work, we don’t see the problems they have to confront daily, we don’t see the stress and burn out many of them go through.

In fact, we don’t even see the good they do. But they do a lot of good.

This week the Ministry of Health and Wellness, the Belize Nurses Association, the Government and private hospitals will have activities in their honour, but if you look around you’ll see that in most cases it will be the nurses doing something for others and not the other way around.

“Nurses are an integral part of the healthcare system and their contribution to patient care is invaluable,” the KHMH said.

“Celebrating Nurse’s Week provides an opportunity to acknowledge the efforts of nurses and thank them for their tireless service. It also raises awareness about the role of nurses in healthcare and promotes their professional development. Nurses are the backbone of our institution. At the KHMH, nurses apply their medical expertise and leadership skills at all levels of our institution from our CEO to the various unit managers. We celebrate our nurses with a full week of activities under the theme, Our Nurses Our Future.”
