By Breaking Belize News Staff: Twenty-eight-year-old Ryan Foster, who was charged with escaping lawful custody has been sentenced to six months in prison after pleading guilty to the charge.

Foster appeared unrepresented in the Belize City Magistrate’s Court, charged for leaping from a moving police mobile patrol pickup while approaching the Belize Central Prison in Hattieville Village on Tuesday, April 18. Foster had been sent to jail over unpaid fines for previous convictions.

In court, he told the Magistrate he was pleading guilty because he was trying to change his life to be a better role model for his son. Taking his early guilty plea into consideration, the Magistrate reduced the one year sentence to nine months and then took off an additional three months given Foster has no previous conviction for escape, leaving him with only six months to serve.

Within the last 4-5 months as many as 3 escapees have managed to flee from the police while being escorted to the Belize Central Prison. Foster was the last.
