Police weigh charges against Pueblo Nuevo shootout suspects

By Aaron Humes: The four men involved in last Thursday’s shooting incident at the Pueblo Nuevo Ferry along the Progresso Road all remain hospitalized, one in critical condition, while the body of a fifth who jumped into the New River and wound up apparently drowning has been recovered.

Akeem “Bam” Trapp is in critical condition at the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital (KHMH) in Belize City, while the others – Stanislaus O’Neal, Benigno Loria, and Sergio Hall – are hospitalized at the Northern Regional Hospital and Northern Medical Plaza respectively.

Police are weighing appropriate charges against each of the four including attempted murder, and are working the case from the basis of a drug transaction gone wrong.

Randolph Crawford’s body was retrieved from the river late on Friday. He had been traveling with O’Neal and Trapp when they came on fire and he fled their vehicle but was unable to cross the river. O’Neal and Trapp subsequently overturned their vehicle on the Progresso Road beyond the Ferry and were initially transported to Corozal, then Orange Walk, and ultimately Belize City for Trapp.

Investigations by police continue pending charges.
