By Aaron Humes: The mean electricity rate (MER) paid by customers remains at $0.3999 per kilowatt-hour, with no changes planned through mid-2024, according to the Public Utilities Commission (PUC).
That is the regulator’s initial decision on the Annual Review Proceeding (ARP) for Belize Electricity Limited (BEL), issued on Friday after it ruled that adjustments in various collections would be made and the results collected over the five-year Full Tariff Review Period (FTRP).
Most customers under the residential band pay a sliding scale of rates from 33 to 43 cents per kilowatt-hour and social customers pay 22 cents per kilowatt-hour up to 60 hours after which they move up to the residential rate.
If there is no objection by BEL the decision becomes final in a few weeks.
