By Rubén Morales Iglesias: The Belize Softball Federation (BSF) donated softball equipment to three primary schools in the Corozal District on Thursday, May 4, 2023.

The Louisville Roman Catholic School, San Narciso Roman Catholic School and Santa Clara/San Roman Roman Catholic School each received a set of equipment that included 12 softball gloves, 6 11” softballs, 1 equipment bag, and 1 batting helmet, according to a BSF in a press release.

The equipment also came with a guide on how to care for and maintain the softball gloves. The donation was made possible by Roque Ramirez who is originally from Louisville.

BSF President Jude Lizama personally presented the softball equipment to the primary schools and to CYCAS (the Corozal Catholic Primary Schools Sports Committee). This equipment consisted of softball bats, catching equipment, batting helmets, softballs, uniform pants, and several softball gloves. The BSF said the equipment was obtained through an equipment grant from Pitch In for Baseball and Softball (a US based organization). The aim of this donation is to promote softball in the Corozal District, especially among primary schools.

In addition, the BSF will conduct training sessions for officials (umpires, coaches, scorekeepers, and volunteer personnel) and players in May and June. The BSF will also help organize a district tournament in June and July in partnership with the Dust to Diamond Project, an initiative that seeks to introduce baseball to Corozal District primary schools.

BSF expressed its gratitude to the National Sports Council for providing a driver and transport to deliver the equipment from Belize City to Corozal.
