International News: Hundreds of migrants gather near U.S.- Mexico border as COVID-19 ban set to expire

Posted: Tuesday, May 9, 2023. 9:16 am CST.

By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: This week, hundreds of migrants have gathered in Tijuana near the wall that divides Mexico from the United States just days before the COVID-19 restriction known as Title 42 is about to expire.

The 3-year-long regulation policy blocked people crossing from seeking asylum, Reuters report.

The expiration of the policy has prompted a rush of migrants to the border.

Officials in Tijuana say that it is nothing like they have ever seen with migrants in makeshift tents.

Meanwhile, the United States is ramping up border security in an effort to stem the surge in migrants.
