By Breaking Belize News Staff: Three men involved in a brawl at a Ladyville basketball court that lead to the death of 20-year-old James Bainton, have been charged for disorderly conduct in the Belize City Magistrate’s Court.
The men, 20-year-old Patrick Leon Canelo, 21- year-old John Carlos Quilter, and 26- year-old Paul Clark were arraigned on Monday.
In court, Canelo, after asking for clarification on the offense, pleaded guilty, and said that Quilter and Clark were not involved in the fight. He also said that he was only fighting to defend himself. Quilter and Clark then entered pleas of not guilty.
For his guilty plea, Patrick Canelo was fined $100 plus $5.00 cost of court and ordered to pay it by July 10, or spend one month in prison for defaulting. Meanwhile, Clark and Quilter were granted bail in the sum of $500 each. Three others have yet to be arraigned for disorderly conduct in connection with the fight which happened on May 4.
Thus far, no one has been charged for Bainton’s death.
