BEBL Disciplinary Committee orders Orange Walk Running Rebels vs Belize City Defenders game to be replayed

By Rubén Morales Iglesias: The Belize Elite Basketball League (BEBL) Disciplinary Committee has ordered a replay of the game between the Orange Walk Running Rebels and the Belize City Defenders that took place last Friday in Orange Walk.

The game ended with a 87-77 victory for the Defenders, who moved up to the second spot in the standings. However, the game was played under protest by the Rebels, who complained that both teams wore white jerseys, which violated the BEBL By-Laws 2023.

The BEBL’s Disciplinary Committee agreed with the protest and ruled that the game must be replayed as soon as possible. The date for the rematch game has not been announced yet, but word out of the Running Rebels camp indicate that it will likely take place late next week.

The decision has significant implications for the standings, as the Defenders (7-5) who had moved to second place behind the Hurricanes (10-2), dropped back to fourth place behind the Griga Dream Ballers (8-5) and the Running Rebels (8-4). The replayed game could change the seeding for the playoffs, which are scheduled to start on May 26.
