By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: Mexican prosecutors have blocked the release of notorious drug lord, Héctor Palma, just hours after a judge ordered that he should be freed.
The BBC reports that Palma founded the Sinaloa cartel along with kingpin Joaquín “El Chapo” Guzmán.
Palma has spent the past 28 years in jails in the US and in Mexico.
In 2005, the drug lord pled guilty to drug trafficking.
But on Tuesday, a judge said there was not enough proof to hold him on separate charges of organised crime.
Following the ruling, the public prosecutor issued a new arrest warrant against Palma on charges of qualified homicide, requiring him to remain in prison.
Palma is one of the most notorious drug lords of the 1980s and 90s. His criminal career was portrayed in the Netflix series Narcos: Mexico.
