By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: Today, the United States is preparing with more forces at the U.S.-Mexico border as Title 42 expires on May 11.
U.S. officials say that 24,000 law enforcement personnel have been deployed to the border.
The Associated French Press reports that tens of thousands of people are waiting at different crossing points for the end to the COVID-19 policy which was in place since 2020 and allowed U.S. authorities to quickly expel migrants to Mexico without the chance to seek U.S. asylum.
U.S. President Joe Biden has acknowledged that the border will be “chaotic for a while” with the expiration of Title 42.
In addition, over 1,000 border processing personnel have been deployed.
Hundreds of migrants that already crossed into the United States, mostly Venezuelans were making lines in El Paso, Texas, to hand themselves in to border patrol agents.
