By Rubén Morales Iglesias: The Belize Barrier Reef is a stunning natural wonder that spans 300 kilometers along the Caribbean coast of Belize. It is the second largest coral reef system in the world after the Great Barrier Reef in Australia, and it hosts a rich diversity of marine life and habitats.
Recently, United States Ambassador Michelle Kwan, film producers Eladio Arvelo and Philip Karp, Senator Janelle Chanona of Oceana Belize, and Julie Robinson of The Nature Conservancy – TNC in Belize had a pre-screening and review of the ‘Unbelizeablue’ film documentary which features the Belize Barrier Reef and shared their insights and experiences on the Reef.
The #Unbelizeablue documentary showcases the efforts of Belizean conservationists, especially the women who make up 90% of them, to protect this precious ecosystem from threats such as climate change, overfishing, and pollution.
Ambassador Michelle Kwan and the panelists discussed how the film aims to raise awareness and inspire action for the preservation of the reef and its benefits for Belize and the world.
