International News: UNICEF study finds over 100,000 children in Haiti at risk of starving to death

By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: The United Nations agency, UNICEF noted in a study that more than 100,000 children in Haiti are at risk of starvation as violence escalates.

According to Reuters, UNICEF also noted that more than 115,600 children in Haiti are expected to suffer severe wasting from malnutrition this year.

UNICEF said that the severe funding gap “could put the lives of more than 100,000 children at risk of immediate death.”

The U.N. estimates that over 600 people were killed last month alone as gangs continue to take control of parts of the country.

“The results of this study come at a key time since they will certainly be useful to us in planning our interventions on all fronts, in our fight against food insecurity,” Prime Minister Ariel Henry said.

U.N. agencies continue to call on the international community to support Haiti as it suffers a security and humanitarian crisis.
