Nurses celebrate their role in healthcare at Belize conference

The event also aimed to further develop their skills and knowledge, reinforcing their critical role in healthcare delivery.

Lizett Bell, the Deputy Director of Hospital Services, emphasized the importance of such gatherings. She stated, “The nursing conference is a crucial platform for nurses. It exposes them to evidence-based topics that enhance their ability to deliver improved care and fosters the development of their competencies.”

Guest speaker Rebecca Johnson, the Regional Director for Chief Nursing Officer (CNO), attended the conference to recognize and celebrate the efforts of Belizean nurses. Johnson, who is passionate about leadership in nursing, underscored the essential role nurses play in the healthcare system.

Johnson said, “I’m here to celebrate with the nurses in Belize. I’m thrilled this International Nurses Day to be here with them, to encourage them, and to applaud them for the work they’re doing here in Belize.” She further added, “Nurses are there every moment with the client. Anywhere you could think of we need nurses so you could imagine if you just eliminate nurses from the healthcare system, I mean you don’t have a healthcare system, that’s the bottom line.”

The conference provided a platform for nurses to share experiences, learn from one another, and better understand the importance of their roles. In a time when the demands on healthcare systems are greater than ever, such events underscore the crucial role of nurses as the heartbeat of these systems.
