Police officer called into action as gunmen target Kenroy Elijio in Belize City

By Aaron Humes: Early this morning, a man from Lucky Strike, Belize District, was targeted while in Belize City. Fortunately for him, a police officer’s intervention prevented further damage.

36-year-old Kenroy Elijio was socializing at the corner of Victoria Street and Price Alley when he was shot at by an armed man known to police. A police officer was standing in his family yard on Price Alley when he heard the gunfire and saw a man he recognized coming from Rhaburn’s Alley shooting at those in the open lot in the alley.

The officer drew his service weapon and targeted the suspected gunman, but then he heard gunshots coming from the direction of Price Alley and Victoria Street and noticed an unknown male person firing shots in his direction. The officer returned fire at this second person and thereafter noticed that the first gunman had already escaped through the alley in the direction of Rhaburn Alley and the unknown gunman ran back through the alley towards Victoria Street.

Elijio is hospitalized in stable condition and police investigations continue.
