By Benjamin Flowers: Last week, vandals stole the hoop from the basketball rim at Lopez Mateo Park in Belize City days before the William Dawson SPRITE-DIGI Youth Basketball Tournament was to commence week two of its games. The tournament continued this weekend and had a record game day, despite the previous act of sabotage.
The games continued on Saturday, May 13 as scheduled with some work behind the scenes by the organizers. Douglas Hyde of the Belize Police Department, one of the organizers of the tournament, reported on social media that it has been the first time in seven years of holding tournaments that all 14 games scheduled for a single day were played.
The results of the Week 2 games are as follows:
Court A
Game 1 – Hattieville Underdogs 47 pts. vs. Casava Youths 23 pts.
Game 2 – City Boys 42 pts. vs. Boom Ballers 37 pts.
Game 3 – Freetown Hitters 28 pts. vs. Ebony Lake 25 pts.
Game 4 – Complex Titans 34 pts. vs. Team Police 30 pts.
Game 5 – Sandhill Heats 39 pts. vs. Rockville 38 pts.
Game 6 – Port Loyala Titans 49 pts. vs. Fort George Boys 47 pts.
Game 7 – 2.0 BZ 44 pts. vs. Unruly Boys 30 pts.
Court B
Game 1 – Dan One 26 pts. vs. Mahogany Heights 20 pts.
Game 2 – Hard Rock Boys 36 pts vs. 501 Falcons 33 pts.
Game 3 – Jaguars 43 pts. vs. Sandhill Heats 15 pts.
Game 4 – Tora Bora 23 pts. vs. Kraal Road 15 pts.
Game 5 – Third World 49 pts. vs. Jaguars 29 pts.
Game 6 – Protel BPO 30 pts. vs. Balling Bulldogs 23 pts.
Game 7 – Hard Rock Boys 39 pts vs. Hattieville Underdogs 34 pts.
Week 3 games are set for Saturday May 20, when a total of 7 games will be played at the St. John’s Primary School Basketball Court, beginning at 8:30 a.m.
