By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: On May 11, 2023, the Ministry of Rural Transformation visited Punta Negra village to provide the Village Council with sacks to assist in beach erosion.
The Ministry also assisted with equipment such as backhoe, rakes, shovels, wheelbarrow, weedeater, and machetes to support with the beautification of their public space.
Punta Negra is a small village located just outside of the town of Punta Gorda. To reach the village, you need to travel by boat for at least an hour.
The village has about 10 families, with some of them serving on the Village Council.
Beach erosion and access to electricity are two of the challenges that the village faces.
CEO Valentino Shal also lobbied with the Ministry of Education to donate a laptop to help children learn typing skills, among other things.
The Ministry also provided the school with additional educational materials.
The Ministry thanked the Ministry of Education for their continued support and assistance.
