Belize hosts regional training workshop on climate change reporting for 30 Latin American, Caribbean countries

By Rubén Morales Iglesias: Belize is hosting a regional training workshop on climate change reporting for 30 countries from Latin America and the Caribbean. The workshop, which runs from May 16th to 19th at the San Ignacio Resort Hotel in Cayo, is organized by the Consultative Group of Experts (CGE) and supported by the UNFCCC secretariat, said the Ministry of Sustainable Development, Climate Change & Disaster Risk Management in a press release.

The workshop aims to increase awareness of the reporting requirements under the Paris Agreement, especially on adaptation and loss and damage information.

The Ministry of Climate Change said the participants will learn about the communication of adaptation information under the Convention and the Paris Agreement, the assessment of climate change impacts, vulnerability and risks, the identification of priority adaptation actions, and the good practices in reporting information on adaptation in the biennial transparency report.

Minister of Sustainable Development, Climate Change, and Disaster Risk Management Orlando Habet delivered the keynote address in which he stressed the importance of scaling up adaptation actions and support for developing countries.

Don Cooper, Director for Transparency at the UNFCCC Secretariat, welcomed the participants and encouraged them to work on strengthening their institutional arrangements, building capacity, and balancing economic, social, and political priorities in the early stages of the reporting process.

The Consultant Group of Experts (CGE) is an expert body established under the UNFCCC process charged with providing technical assistance and support to developing countries in fulfilling their reporting requirements under the Convention and the Paris Agreement.

The CGE also seeks to facilitate the preparation of national communications and biennial transparency reports, and provides the secretariat technical advice on the training of technical expert review teams.
