Eastern Division senior officers reintroduced to public

By Aaron Humes: On Monday afternoon, Assistant Commissioner of Police and Officer Commanding Eastern Division, Hilberto Romero, was joined at the weekly press briefing by his colleagues, Senior Superintendents Christopher Noble and Reymundo Reyes.

They may have 57 years of policing service between them but are arguably not as well known as some of their fellows. But as senior officers in the Department, they wish to make themselves available to hear public concerns and complaints for the smoother operation of the Department in the busiest and toughest area to police in all of Belize.

Sr. Supt. Reyes is in charge of operations as he explains: “My responsibility entails coordinating operations within the Belize District with regards to that of crime. Wherever we see that there is a rise in crime and so forth then I have meetings with the different commanders and the specialized units so that we could put in the necessary manpower within that area so that we can counterattack the crime within that jurisdiction within that area… We vouch to the community of Belize, the Belize District, and the country itself that we are here to serve and protect and to look at your complaints. We have 911 which people could eventually call, they do not have to give their names or any sort of information that could link them to the information that they are providing to us so that they could look at it at the end of the day. As well, we have the 922-TIPS that people could call in and forward certain information to us which we will definitely be looked at and give them feedback at a later date.”

Meanwhile, Sr. Supt. Noble administrates, deploying the forces from San Pedro in the far north to Gales Point in the South and Caye Caulker in the east to La Democracia out west. He describes the reason for this latest public outreach: “The advantage is basically that we would be called for any issue that would be related to our work in the Belize District and not have to call persons that were here before that would have to relay that information. So it shortens the time span for a response.”
