Families in Cayo benefit from Small Ruminant Grant for improving Livelihood Resilience in Western Belize

By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: On May 13, Taiwan’s Ambassador to Belize, Lily Li-Wen Hsu attended the closing ceremony of “Small Ruminant Grant for improving Livelihood Resilience in Western Belize Project”.

The project is a collaboration between TaiwanICDF, the Ministry of Agriculture, Food Security and Enterprise of Belize, and Food For the Poor (FFTP) and was executed in Benque Viejo Del Carmen, Cayo District.

“Thanks to the initiative funded by FFTP, a total of 85 high-quality breeding sheep from the “Sheep and Goat Project” collaborated between the Governments of Belize and Taiwan, were donated to selected families in the Cayo District. Over the past two years, through on-site visits and various workshops, the Taiwan Technical Mission has provided the project beneficiaries with technical assistance and sharing hands-on experiences of sheep nutrition, reproduction and health, and even culinary skills of lamb and mutton,” the Taiwan Embassy noted.

The Embassy says that it celebrates the successful implementation of this project and will continue to partner with the Government of Belize and relevant international agencies for the benefit of Belizean people.
