Over 22 Brazilian nationals found guilty of immigration offenses to be deported

By Breaking Belize News Staff: A total of 22 Brazilian nationals are being deported following immigration operations carried out by authorities.

The group consists of 18 adults, who appeared in the Belize City Magistrate’s Court on Monday, as well as four minors. Of the adults, 10 were charged with being prohibited immigrants.

In court, the defendants, who required the assistance of a translator, explained that they had been promised safe passage to the United States and were only passing through Belize.

The defendants who were charged with illegal entry were Lucio Dos Santos, 38; Darlene Aparecida Do Carmo, 33; Camilla Gomes Lima Moreira, 35; Joaquim Marcelino Moreira, 44; Junior Lucio Dos Santos, 37; Richardson Glaugher Martin’s Morta, 43; Kelle Cristina Lopes Goncalves Morta, 40; and Wagner Laurenco Dos Santos, 37. They all pleaded guilty and were fined $1,000 plus $5 cost of court which needed to be paid forthwith or they would spend six months in prison.

Those charged with illegal entry were Jonathan Henrique Pinharo Da Silva, 25; Emanuel Henrique Barbosa Gaspar, 24; Marcus Da Silva Magalhaes, 22; Tiago Pereira De Araujo, 23; Moises Peterson Ramos Amaral, 22; Arildo Pereira de Souza, 47; Suzy Christine Souza, 43; Alan Isidro De Carravallo, 18; Carlos Henriquez Catharino, 23, and Clerk and Igor Rodriguez Do Carmo.

They all pleaded guilty and were fined $1,000 plus $5 cost of court which had to be paid forthwith or they would spend six months in jail.

The Immigration Department also applied to the court for a removal order against everyone charged and it was granted. They are to be deported as soon as possible.

The group charged with being prohibited immigrants entered Belize via bus and were detained by authorities at the Crooked Tree junction on May 12. The illegal entry group came into Belize via the Mopan River in Benque Viejo Del Carmen on May 11.
