Public officer sentenced to two and a half years in jail for unlicensed handgun

By Breaking Belize News Staff: Floyd Robinson Jr., a public officer for six years, was sentenced to two and a half years in prison this week after being found guilty of a firearm offense.

Robinson appeared in the Belize City Magistrate’s Court on Monday before Senior Magistrate Tricia Pitts-Anderson, where he was found guilty kept unlicensed firearm, one of three counts he was initially charged with. He was found not guilty with respect to the other two charges.

Magistrate Anderson after considering the aggravating and mitigating factors sentenced him to three years and then deducted six months from that sentence.

Robinson was found in 2019 with an unlicensed firearm under the driver’s seat of his vehicle. The weapon was being hidden under a floor mat at the time of the police search.
