Posted: Wednesday, May 17, 2023. 1:22 pm CST.

By Benjamin Flowers: Mayor of Belmopan Sharon Palacio has publicly expressed sadness at the death of 19-year-old Imari Galvez and the greater impact the situation has had on city residents.

Palacio issued a statement today, offering condolences on behalf of herself and the Belmopan City Council, to Galvez’s family in their time of bereavement.

“As we mourn her passing and beg the Almighty for strength and fortitude, we call on our Police Department to ensure justice. Let’s be our brothers and sisters’ keepers once again,” Palacio said. “Guns and any forms of violence have done way more harm to our families and society.”

Palacio also called on other residents and institutions to pray for peace and justice, stressing that violence has no place in society.
