By Aaron Humes: Once again, Belmopan is in mourning as another of its young citizen’s life was taken far too soon.
And the family of 19-year-old Imari Galvez has been left to wonder why she seemed sad, almost tearful, when she was last seen at her home in the Salvapan area of Belmopan, and why she left her home early in the morning on Sunday, never to be seen again until her decomposing body was found off the Hummingbird Highway.
Family members say she received a phone call that prompted her to leave her house without her cell phone charger – something she never went anywhere without – and failed to send a photo of which friend she was with as she normally did according to her mother Johanna Caceres, who spoke to Channel 5 News.
The young woman was looking forward to her birthday party for her 20th year – but now her family are planning her funeral while police search for her killer.
The body was uncovered in an area known to Belmopanese as a dumping ground, where another body had recently been found.
And Imari’s family are left with the too-familiar hope for justice and yearning for closure, as they ponder which intimate of hers left her for dead.
